This is a tough one! We have such a fabulous boarding kennel here, that I would board her rather than take her such a long flight. She won't be able to "hold it" for 8 hours or more will she? On the other hand, if you are going to be gone longer than a week, I'd consider taking her on the plane.

IMO the best thing for her would be to find a trusted friend to keep her.
