Oh my goodness, I wish Taffy would be so polite as to "ask" to be picked up...LOL
If we're reading the mail or the paper and not paying her any attention, all of a sudden there is a thud on our lap and she's peering over or under whatever we're holding. We have never encouraged her to jump on or off things but she's like a cat. It is uncanny how high she can jump from a standing position.
The worrier in me gets concerned about all this jumping but it seems to be her instinct. I am more afraid that by trying to interfere we would put her off balance and cause her to sprain a leg or something.
She simply cannot stand not to be the center of attention although she does play by herself when she wants to. When she wants attention (generally if we're watching a movie) she'll jump up, lay down and take a nap.
I know about the dangers of the knees, etc. but she's is surer footed than we are. We do keep her blocked off from the bedrooms though because we don't want her jumping up that high. She only jumps into our laps or our recliners...never the other furniture so I think it's really because she can't handle not being the focus of our attention all the time. The funniest thing is that when one of us gets up, she takes that chair and has the smuggest look on her face for stealing it. She really thinks she's all that and more when she beats us to our chairs! |
