When we got our first male dog a few months ago he started to hump things, quite often too. I didn't know how to handle that. Then, when he began humping something I said no in a firm voice and then gently but firmly put him on his back to show him I am dominate and I don't want him doing that. When he stopped fighting to get free from being on his back I would let him go. That is an instinctual thing dominate dogs do to lower ranking dogs to show who's boss. After a few times of doing that he really stopped humping except for every once in a while, but it is way better than how often he was before. If you spend a week or more training him while you can supervise them, he should learn to behave a little more. I also personnally think it is a good idea that you got him a playmate, I am a firm beliver in pairs of dogs, they have so much more fun with a buddy through their life. After your girl grows a little she will be able to hold their own.
But the one issue you will be presented with is when she matures, one of the dogs (or both) will need to be fixed or else this little pair will present all new sets of problems you will have to deal with to keep your female healthy while she grows up (and avoid pregnancy when she is too young) |
