If he had scratched off the fur and/or if there was a skin infection around the eyes, the skin may turn dark for awhile. That happened to my Wylie - he had a little bite by one of his eyes and he kept scratching the skin, it became infected, we had to apply prescription ointment for 10 days - and then the skin turned very dark -- it took quite a few months for it to normalize. It's normal for skin to turn dark while healing - altho sometimes it never turns pink again, just fyi.

What was the diagnosis anyway? Did they culture the area?
