As soon as the bottom hits the floor , click, say "good sit", and treat. The thing they learn is the click sounds means they are doing it right. Don't introduce a new trick until they totally have mastered one. After they master sit, you can phase out the clicker and treat and they should sit on command, of course a "good boy" from you is in order.I have used this method to teach mine: sit, down, roll over, play dead, army crawl, shake, high five, wave bye-bye, tell me a secret, leave it, limbo dancing, circles, give me a kiss, and jumping through hoola hoops. One of mine didn't start trick training until he was 7 seven years old. I was training him at the same time as a 6 month old, side by side. In my avatar you will see three of them side by side "having school". They all learn at different paces, some tricks ny older one got faster and some the younger one learned the trick first. It's alot of fun, for both me & them, and when they "get it" and understand what you want them to do, they are so pleased with themselves. It is great for thier minds, keeps them from being bored. Limit training sessions to 3-5 minutes, once or twice a day, or thier attention will wander. My Little Scooter has the attention span of a gnat, so I can tell when he's had enough school!
