That's why cross training is perfect. Lady will use pads here, but since I also take her out several times a day, so she's used to outside potty, too.
When we visit, I always take her outside to potty. Not everyone is comfortable with a dog pottying inside their house, plus I don't think you can expect a dog to search for pads in a strange house.
Bad weather is the reason I taught her to use pee pads. Lady doesn't do rain or snow.
I have found doing both to be perfect. Lady's night vision is not good since she's gotten older. She's afraid to go out in the dark. We do our last outside walk at suppertime and her last pee before bed in on her pads. She goes on command so it's great.
