I bet that's it. Fleas love humidity. When it's dry, the eggs split open and don't hatch. That's part of the theory behind carpet powders and 20 Mule Team Borax, I think.
I hate fleas. You have to treat for them here even if you have cats that never go outside. They come in through screens, on your pant legs, etc.
