No, not rare at all, if you are breeding correctly. What is difficult to achieve is the color. There is much emphasis on the coat. The coat is the crowning glory of the yorkie, structure and health is much more important.

Have you been to a AKC dog show. Yorkies in the ring are silk coated. Occassionly you will have a soft coated dog, though it's not desired or standard.
