Penny is on Trupanion. I think that it is worth it given the cost of veterinary care in our area-- even though I work at a veterinary hospital myself and get an employee discount! If anything were to ever go wrong with her that required a specialist or a board certified surgeon, I would not want to have to make a decision to treat her or not based on finances. She lives a little bit more of a high-risk lifestyle than a lot of other dogs-- she's a big hiker and adventurer, which may be fun for her but also increases the risk that she might be injured one day. Also, we have some wonderful specialists in things like oncology here in Western Washington, and if as she ages she ever develops cancer or another disease, I would want to be able to provide her with the best care possible.

I chose Trupanion over the other plans out there because they cover many congenital and hereditary conditions that most other insurers will not cover.
