Default pets

The coat on a show dog is what catches our eye. Cut the coat off and you can see what makes a show dog..good structure for a start. If you wrapped a pet quality, kept them in full show coat length, did an class A top knot, then it would be harder to weed out the pet from show at a glance. Last week at a show I saw two pet quality in the enteries.
One had a terrible sloped topline (down at the shoulders) the other was very sooty and wavy..but that really is what showing is about...you enter a dog and have it compared to the standard and see if you are breeding quality. That is how dog shows began..a place for breeders to see other dogs and compare their stock...!
AND it is possible to finish pet quality dogs..champion in front of a name does not always mean quality. There are judges who put up Yorkies who should be at home giving and receiving love.
I have both, pets and show dogs..they are all YORKIES to the bone...and wonderful.
