 bella's recovery
hi, everyone!
bella had her surgery last wednesday. the vet kept her 'til thursday afternoon. they sent us home with clavimox, carprofen and valium (to keep her calm) and some exercises to do twice a day.
she was pretty quiet thursday, but by friday i had to go back for a different sedative (she was running AND jumping!). they doubled the valium to 5mg twice a day (she weighs 7 1/2 pounds!), but she only got more active. on sunday we just stopped the valium and lo and behold...she slept. i swear, she's just nuts!
anyway, the exercise involves moving the leg as if she's riding a bicycle (ice before and after). after 8 days she started to cry during the second session. now she actively fights me. sometimes a little massage helps, but tonight i thought she'd bite me.
the stitches aren't due to come out until wednesday, but i'm concerned
enough that i'm calling the vet tomorrow. she runs and plays and jumps, but i know the exercise is necessary and it's becoming a real problem. any advice? |
