As long as you are consistent they will get it. Mine practically understand sentences, because they know our routine. They know if I tell them to "go potty" to means to pee, but they also know what I mean when I say "hurry up" or "Get back out there and poop too!"
(Because I come outside, stand on the porch, and point to the yard LOL!)
