Default The life of Gwen

Hello All!

I am very excited to be part of this community. I have been reading a lot of posts and forums before I even got my yorkie. I am a first time yorkie mom, and I am so very excited. My husband and I shopped around for a very long time for the type of dog that would suit us best. We live in an apartment, and work full time jobs. I knew before getting a puppy that this would be difficult. But my husband literally works a block away and so we knew it would work. We had been looking at yorkie puppies at pet shops for a long time, and they all looked so sad… After we decided a yorkie is what we absolutely wanted, and tried to find a good breeder with “credentials” a good friend of mine at work told me her yorkies (Daisy and Duke) had just had a litter of 2 puppies, but the little boy puppy squirmed away and died. So there was just one, a little girl - Gwen. I told her as soon as she was old enough, we would take her. We went to visit her every week, and Daisy didn’t mind us being there at all.
About 7 and 1 half weeks later she was already eating puppy chow and Daisy was paying no attention to her. So we decided it was time to bring her home. She slept the whole ride home. I think it helped a lot that we had bought her a blanket at about 2 weeks and put it in the cage with her and her mom. She only woke up one time during that first night and I took her outside, and then she went right back to sleep. Now she already knows after 3 weeks to go straight to the back door when she gets out of her cage, and she cries anytime she needs to go outside. She goes potty, and then comes inside to get a treat. She is so smart, she already knows how to sit and beg, and in the next few weeks she will be starting her puppy training classes. She isn't perfect, she has her accidents, but she is still just a baby. She had her first trip to the groomer last week and she did so well.
We were very anxious to introduce her to my mom and dad and their two dogs, a Bichon – Dozer and a Pomeranian – Katie. Dozer loved her, he ran around, and didn’t get rough at all with her. And she loved him; she loved his big bushy tale. Katie was a little jealous; she isn't used to having all the attention on any other dog but her. She's a brat!
I am very excited to see what Gwen will be like in the future. I am very excited to share her experiences with other people who know the joys of having a yorkie, and how amazing they are!

Thank you everyone!
Emily and Gwen
