Just oil and clean. You might be able to sharpen the blade, but I would just buy a replacement blade if I notice it is getting dull. They are inexpensive ($13.59 in my previous post). As far as how long they last....I have only had mine for a couple of years, but here are some reviews where one lady says she has had hers 15 years and just now needs a new blade.
