I'm sorry I'm late on this, but wanted to share my experience. When my 18 year old son was in his early teens. He was going to put some chlorine tablets in the skimmer in our pool. When he opened the container he opened it right in front of him and under his nose. He accidently took a big whiff and it started bothering him right away. I called the emergency poison control and they said to get him into a steamy room. Since my bathroom has my washer and dryer in it also...I put him in my bathroom, turned on the hot water in the tub, sink and washer (with lid open) and kept the door shut up tight.
I'm sorry I don't remember how long it took, but it wasn't very long when he started feeling 100% better. Not sure if you do the same with dogs or other animals, but it's always worth a try.
