PS Can dogs eat celery? I heard that for people, your body burns more calories digesting the celery than the actual celery itself, resulting in negative calories. Just peel off the stringy parts. Is it ok to give to dogs?
You're right celery does have negative calories; it takes more calories to chew it than it gives you, but it also contains lots of sodium so I don't think I would try it, plus dogs don't always chew all their food. Just like with humans it's best to lose weight slowly, some of this weight may be a temporary water weight, due to the high salt content in the foods given, bologna, and popcorn. Excess salt causes your body to retain water, which can cause a rapid weight gain, but it's not real fat, and once the body has the proper salt ratio will return to a more accurate weight.
