New Member - Collapsing Trachea ? Hello, I'm a new member. I have a 13 year old Yorkie mix, Phoebe, who has a collapsed trachea. Phoebe is 5 lbs. She was diagnosed last year with a grade 4 heart murmur, and is currently taking both Enalapril and Vetmedin. She was doing fine on both of those meds, until this weekend when she started to breathe rapidly. We took her to her vet today, who x-rayed her from the sides. Her lungs look good and seem clear with no fluids, but since her heart is enlarged, it's pushing on her trachea. Her heart is crowding her little trachea, and the vet said she is having problems exhaling, not inhaling. She is still eating well and very perky. We want to keep her happy and comfortable for as long as possible. My vet is currently researching solutions into other meds which could help her, and I told her I would research answers also. Sorry this is long, but I know in the past that Yahoo group members can provide a wealth of helpful information regarding pet health. If anyone can tell me if they've had a similar experience and what the specific meds are that helped them, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Sherrie (and Phoebe) |
