I have wondered about this too. I have really thick wavy hair that I always straighten but rain is my enemy and I avoid going swimming. I dream about being able to get out of the shower and just letting my hair air dry but I have never tried any salon straightening because I was afraid of what you said - when it grows out, the roots will be wavy but the rest of it straight. If you try it and like it definitely let me know
