So many different factors can affect the kidney function... environmental , food ... i mean bad food ( like the recalled foods a while back) , poisoning... and yes, genetic ... but also congenital, these are 2 different things...

If your baby is fine i am sure you have no reasons to be freaking out right now, but of course it is better to have him checked out just in case, i would assume a blood work will be the first step...

I am wondering what kind of benefit the DNA test would be... are you that is what the vet suggested? The biopsy i am sure will show if kidney is functioning well at the cellular level and more....

I believe the DNA test is to see whether or not it is a genitic disease or not. When I was reading about JRD it was a standard test that was done to check for it.
