I don't have experience with kidney issues, BUT my pups have the same father, and I know of 3 others people with pups from the same father ~ all have different Mother's. Anyway, ALL the pups have luxating patellas and a couple have liver issues (including mine).
It is best to get him testing, and hopefully the breeder will do the same
