Some really are silver instead of blue. In fact, many call their silver yorkies blue but they are just silver to me. The "blue" the standard talks about is a dark steel blue -- more a gun metal blue and it does have the blue tinge to it. The ones that are just plain silver/grey with no blue tinge, are not in standard and should not be called blue.

If you want to know if a black coat will turn "blue" look at it in the sunlight. If the black coat has a little brownish reflection, it will probably just stay black and is a fault. If the black, has a bluish reflection, it will probably turn blue and is standard.
