Are you wanting to train your puppy to go outside or to use pee pads or both? I have never crate trained so I don't know much about how involved that is. Personally I think crates are to confining for a young pup so I always recommend a x-pen or a room that can be gated off. With an x-pen you can put their bed or opened crate at one end, a pee pad at the other end and food and water in the middle. If you want to teach your pup to go outside then you have to be vigilant in taking the pup out every couple of hours and praise them a lot when they do potty outside. I know several people that have trained their pups to ring a bell when they need to go outside. Best of luck with your new baby.
