If a breeder is feeling insulted it's because they aren't comfortable with what you are asking.

A breeder should be very willing and open with your questions and the conversation is a two way street.

There are key questions that I ask a potential new owner before I allow the conversation to continue. I never let a potential new owner know whether or not I have puppies (usually I don't at the time of a call). Once I feel comfortable with what I'm hearing we continue getting to know each other.
