I wouldn't feel bad about crating. Most dogs love their crate, and anyway they need to earn their freedom. It has been 8 months for me and I can't say Scruffs is completely house trained, but it has been 3 weeks since his last accident and he definitely is learning slowly but surely. It's been really hard since he peed in the house for the first half of his life.. and was alone for 12 hours a day with no rules or walks.
