If I'm not mistaken I think they stop growing at about 8 months, but they could still "fill out" some more.

Are you sure of his birthday? Maybe he is older than you think. My breeder is scatterbrained and said Uni was 8 weeks when she was actually 12. Also last vet visit the scale was wrong and we had to reweigh her.

Either way, I think the bigger ones are more sturdy, don't have to always to the yorkie shuffle, you can walk like a normal person. LOL
