I tried it on my schnauzer and poodle a while back. The poodle would bark and the schnauzer would get the squirt, poor thing. But it was funny I think my poodle had a riot with that one lol.
It would really scare my schnauzer, she would go down and freeze there. Sometimes they would bark their head off and no squirts. I gave a collar to my son so he could try on his dog and he didn't have much more luck. Maybe some people had success but for me it didn't do well.
