We use "alternatives" for Toto too! Those stairs, etc. are far too bulky to take when we travel so I just make do ... whatever works. The laundry basket/rug is a great idea. Right now I have a "banker's box" with the top covered so Toto doesn't slide. It works perfect. I have also used the Rubbermaid totes that we use to pack things in. Anything handy as long as the top is covered .... if Toto ever loses her footing, it takes a little while for her to regain her confidence. It's great ... we usually don't even wake up when she goes to her pad or to drink water at night!
