You might want to have the vet check him out. Ear mites or an ear infection could be the problem. I do know my last yorkie was scratching at his ear and then his hair around the ear starting falling out. I took him to the vet and $200.00 later they found nothing. I found out from the lady at the pet store that it might be a food allergy ( corn). I switched food and problem was solved. But a vet could rule out the obvious problems.
