I never allowed my little Raisin to go down the stairs because she was at many times like a slinky, so she never even attempted it. Dennis is a little smaller, though longer, and has absolutely no problem. He started to run up and down the stairs at 4 months because he did not like to be left. Dennis is the type that has to be with you no matter where you are or where you go, not that Raisin was different, just that she knew that if I went down stairs it was just for the garbage or laundry and not that I was leaving her. I would have preferred that Dennis be content to be carried, so maybe you want to reconsider teaching him. I personally think it is safer and a lot easier.
