This is probably why the dog was giving up in the first place.

I would never keep a dog that tired to bite my grandson or my dogs. You can't leave this dog alone with any children or dogs even for a second.

Unless you are willing to keep the dog and get behavioral training, take him back. It isn't worth what you might go though should he hurt your grandson or another child.
