Yorkie color is determined by genetics.
Yorkies reach maturity at approximately 2 years of age and their coat color is probably going to be what it is going to be at that age. However, you do have yorkies that go lighter as they age. Some go very light at a very young age. Some stay dark (usually soft coated yorkies). Females tend to go lighter with each heat cycle..
