My children are very kind and gentle with animals, and would never intentionally hurt any animal. They were devastated when this happened to Missy. We implemented alot of new "house rules" when we got Missy and the children have been incredible about following each and every one of them. They aren't even allowed to hold Missy while standing up and they must be seated on the floor with Missy in their lap if they want to hold her.

Personally, I don't see why in certain circumstances children and small dogs shouldn't successfully mix if rules are set and followed. It's always been that what I say goes....no nonsense. Here's an example that nearly drove me nuts when I witnessed it. When I went into stores my children went into the cart and were strapped in and that is where they stayed. I was in a local store and a 1 yr. old child was running around pulling products off of shelves. The mother said he wouldn't stay in the cart so what was she to do. What did she mean that she couldn't keep a 1 yr. old in the cart? What sort of mind-set is that? My own children drive me nuts with what they allow their children to do when they've already said 'no.' but Nana keeps her mouths shut.
