it is a natural antibacterial and antifungal so it keeps them from having bacteria and fungal infections by supplementing internally -- i also use for topical hot spots and works great. I get this kind as most pure and in glass jar. I was giving 1/4 tsp a day to dd and now going back to that her. Her blood work was fine on it as well and so mad i stopped now
