I know that it may sound like a ridiculous comparison to some. But when suggesting to think of an animal as one would a toddler it is meant that an animal has a "mind similar to that of a very young child". I would not suggest putting a child in a cage/kennel/crate, however, we do use cribs, playpens, walkers, baby seats, etc. to confine a child to a safe environment when the child can not be in Moms arms

As for not liking a crate, have you tried a large crate with her down comforter inside? lol
If you can bear it, she will get used to it if allowed to acclimate herself to it.
