I'm sorry too. I lost my fiance some time back and it was by far the most devastating experience of my life. Quite honestly, I fear going through that again.
The best advice I can give is to be there for your friend for a long time after this poor man leaves us. There is always a big flurry of sympathy for a few weeks/months, and then people go back to their own lives. You can be a true friend by sticking by her during this particularly hard time.
