If someone buys a pup and they don't have the AKC papers but have the AKC numbers of the sire and dam then they can still register that pup with a different kennel club. Unfortunately there are dishonest people that would do just that.

Barb, I understand waiting to give papers until there was proof of spay/neuter but someone said "Why would you want them if you are not going to breed" Rescue will spay/neuter very early because in some cases, it may never be done otherwise and I agree with breeders who do not want to s/n before 6 months but they should get the papers then.
