Question Age of children in home...

My youngest is 7 and oldest is 9... we have been talking for about a year on welcoming a Yorkie into our family. I have been looking into rescues and the ones I have seen only adopt out to families with children 10 and older.

I know if a Yorkie is not well socialized they can have aggression towards children. I also know that a Yorkie is a small breed that could be harmed easily. My children know how to treat animals and care for them. Of course we haven't had the pleasure of welcoming a dog into the family as of yet, but we have had turtles and guinea pigs that were members of our family.

Do Breeders adopt out their puppies to homes with children? If so, why will they adopt a puppy out but not a grown dog for fear the grown dog could be harmed by a younger child. This makes no sense whatsoever to me or my husband.
