This is what we are working on now..hope it works for you. Give your puppy an item such as a sock.. (not one of his toys yet) and let him play with it. Say, "drop it" and then wave food under his nose. When he drops it give him food and then give him the item back. The first time he drops it perfectly give him twice as much food. One thing we learned is that when he had something dangerous in his mouth or really anything we didn't want him to have was not to chase after him. Initially we chased after him and this became a very fun game for him which he usually won bc he is super fast. So no we act like we don't care...and casually block him off with an expen and then walk and take it. He is starting to understand the "drop it" now and runs to get his treat each time. Good luck!
