Cherly, I think you are doing the right thing. Besides, you don't want to see that little puppy get hurt by the big dog. I wish I could take her, I already got in trouble with my husband for getting on a waiting list for the homeless animals left behind by Katrina. Best of luck, in the meantime, while you do find a home for this little one, please give her lots of love...and know that you are doing what is best for the both of you.
