Many people get the solid plastic bottoms but they carry more bacteria. With the wire cages everything falls through but they can get their feet stuck and eventually also develop sore hocks which is not fun. They get open wounds on the bottom of there feet from continuously rubbing on the metal. So highly recommend the grates for the bottom.
