Before you go straight home cooking, there is lots of research you'll need to do to keep their diet balanced. I had no idea what I was in for when I first started. I still provide home cooking for them occasionally, but not strictly home cooking anymore. I didn't mind it, they just started turning their noses up at it. I didn't use potatoes, I used brown rice. What I did was boiled 10 pounds of chicken at one time. De-bone it, cook the rice, carrots, green beans, and whatever other fresh vegetables I chose seperately. Put the chicken in the food processor, mix it all up, add bone meal for calcium and some supplements to get other vitamins in there. Mine got tired of the chicken so I switched to beef, and it got really expensive. It's hard, no doubt about it. Calculating how much of this and that gets really technical. But there are a few experts on here that can be of some real help to you if you are serious about this. Hopefully they will hit on this and help you out! They helped me out tremendously, even directed me to some recipes. Best of luck to you.
