POP Shot is Posterior Oxytocin Pituitary. Recommended to insure that all excess tissue and membranes are expelled and to insure the uterus contracts and to increase milk letdown within twelve to twenty four hours of whelping. A retained placenta could very well cause an infection, therefore the possibility of losing your dam.
There is another member on YT that learned the hard way, administering this injection would have saved her dam.
