my little max was diagnosed with a liver shunt when a few months ago, had the surgery, and is doing great now. he is still on a special diet and meds...maybe for the rest of his life. it is my understanding that when its a liver shunt, surgery is the best way to go. maybe the vet could do some sort of payment plan for you so you don't have to pay it all at the same time. don't know if this help or not! good luck and keep us updated!!
