I have not traveled with Remy yet, but have been researching because he will be doing both domestic and international travel in the near future.

Your pup will be with you in cabin, correct? Of the carriers I've researched I really like the Sherpa ones they look comfortable and appear to meet the size requirements of the under-seat area on most airlines.

Is your trip domestic or international?

For international travel you need to research the guidelines for importing animals (can be done by checking with the country's consulate) and also for reentry back in the US.

For EU countries, the pup needs to be microchipped with an ISO compliant chip (15 characters). Remy has the RESQ chip which is ISO compliant. Apparently other US vendors (Home Again) are not ISO compliant - only 9 characters - so they either need an additional chip or you need to bring a scanner with you. In addition to the microchip you need proof of rabies vaccine and a health certificate by a certified vet.

For US reentry it appears from my limited research thus far that proof of rabies vaccine and the health certificate are the only two requirements

I understand it is also important to check with the airline. You will have to pay a fee for the pup, and they may limit the number of pups on any one flight.

Good luck and safe travels!
