Usually I only take them for short rides so I keep the small one in my suv. When hubby and I take them out, we have the larger seat in his suv cause we would probably be going further. If you mainly make short trips, the smaller one is okay. If you drive distances, I would suggest the larger one. I usually put a blankie or a squishy pillow in with them for long trips. But then, my 2 don't exactly snuggle up to each other all the time. I'd purchased the smaller one first when we only had Hot Rod. I like having the big one as well for the longer trips. Sorry if this is confusing you more. I guess I would tend to say the larger one that way you have the best of both worlds.
