I'm a big fan of getting older animals! The only thing I think is that six months can be a tough age - it's the start of many dogs' "teenager" years. However, I would assume he's housebroken if he's coming from a show background, and that is by far and away the hardest thing to train.

Also, at six months old, you know what the dog is going to look like, how big it is going to be, AND it can hold its bladder all night. Young pups are a handful.

I got a dog at two years old and we are bonded like glue. A six month old dog should not have any bonding issues. S/he will probably be very greatful to have a new life with a loving family who wants to train him/her!
