anyways, my problem is...
since his new he sniffs everything in the house and anything he finds he eats... he even ate my mom plant and dirt =. idk if its okay! i mean i dont think it can be that bad.
this morning i was playing with him, until i heard this noise coming like a huffin/sneezing it was weird. as i was looking through this forum i saw that this can be reverse sneezing or something like that.. what i did to stop it was grabbed a syringe(not a needle one or anything that can hurt him or poke hiim, it was a syringe i got when i got my wisdom teeth pull out and it just squirts water) anyways i put water on that open his mouth and pour a lil bit of water in there, because i though he was choking. he was fine afterward's haven't heard anything since...
(note** the breader gave me some medicine because she had another yorkie a smaller one that was sneezing and like coughin and he was sick and she said sometimes if one is sick they all catch it, so she gave me medicine for him just in case, would it be necessary to give him the medicine if this weird sneezing/huffing insist?)
another thing is he keeps scratching himself a lot specially his back! and i think this is due to dry skin! i got him the oatmeal shampoo i shower him today he was fine for a couple hours but his like scratching himself again so i guess im gonna have to bathe him in a couple day's again!
i been trying to potty train him as well i bought him aboserbent pads, i call them pee pee sheets.. they absorb pee and stuff like that. well at night i put it like right beside's his bed that i bought him just in case he needs to go u know? is this good to put it by his bed, where he sleeps!
i did it last night and i went to go look at the sheet and found it all wet! with pee which is great i think because he went to the bathroom in the sheets and not his bed! so thats a plus!
And lastly the breeder from who i got it from said to give him sugar on his water or put syrup in his gums! to help his energy and if i don't see him eating as much to give hiim sugar in his water because he might loose sugar in his body and that can lead to death! is this true?
also i been giving him some rice, and lil bit of chicken! with its normal doggy food that she gave me! she also told me to get him soft food! i forgot the name! but should i give him a softer food for now? because he eats the normal doggie food but not as much!
my Yorkie is a normal size one its not tea cup or anything!
other than that my dog is the most playful dog ever he runs around and looks healthy! and goes nuts for his toys i love my yorkie! and i want the best for him, if you have any advice! i would love anything!
thanks! |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new puppy.
Some plants can be poisonous to animals, it is important that nothing is left where he can get into it and harm himself. The plants need to all be out of his reach to avoid a problem. You really need to go through and puppy proof any areas that he will have free roam in to keep his environment safe, puppies will chew and eat just about anything so it is up to us to make sure they can't get anything harmful.
The sound you heard very well could have been a reverse sneeze, I wouldn't suggest giving water to him to try to stop it though. I have a Boston terrier and that breed does a lot of reverse sneezing, they just need to calm down and they will get under control and be fine. If the breeder gave you meds because one of the other puppies was ill then you should probably go ahead and give them to your puppy as a precaution. It must be something contagious or she wouldn't have bothered giving you the medicine and puppies can go downhill fast when they are sick.
The breeder is giving you information about putting sugar in his water to prevent hypoglycemia which is something that is not uncommon in toy bred dogs. You should really arm yourself with as much information as you can on the symptoms of it so that you are prepared is something should happen and your puppy has an episode of it. do a google search on it and you will find lots of information. I don't want to go against what your breeder told you but seems like putting sugar in his water all the time might not be necessary, unless has he had episodes of hypoglycemia previously? How much does he weigh? If he is eating well then you shouldn't have a problem, alot of people will free feed their pups when they are that young so they have access to their food all the time, I did this with mine when she was a wee little one. You should have something called nutrical on hand in case of emergencies, it is a supplement that can be giving when hypo is suspected or if there is an incident where your pup may be in danger of blood sugar dropping (like a injury). It is also used if your pup isn't eating well to get their appetite peeked.
As far as giving soft foods, totally not necessary if he is eating dry food well and you don't feel he needs to supplement. A favorite treat I would give mine when they were babies was plain yogurt of cottage cheese.
I'm sure others will have some advice as well
