Hi, I can tell when my girls are going into heat by the swelling. Normally a few days before they start to bleed I will notice their vulva beginning to swell a bit. I keep track of their cycles so I am watching for this when they are due to come in. But for mine swelling is the first indicator.
I aso can tell by the fact my other females will start smelling them about 1-2 wks before they start. So that clues me in as well.
