What kind of pen are you using and where is it located? I personally do not believe in crate training but instead I used a playpen placed right beside my bed when the puppies were very young. I woulsd place my hand in the playpen to comfort the puppy unitl it fell asleep. It was large enough to hold the bed, a wee wee pad and food and water.
Once the puppy was old enough to hold it through the night they were allowed t sleep in my bed with me.
Are you using a similar mehtod to the conditions at the breeders? Is there anyone or anything to keep the puppy company through the night because it is used to having it's mother and/or it's litter mates to sleep with most likely.
I use an Xpen to confine the dog during the day when it cannot be supervised.
