First of all, welcome to Yorkie Talk. It sounds like you have your hands full. It is very possible the previous owner was way off on the days that the dogs bred. Females are in heat for 21 days and it is quite possible for them to breed over a 10 day period if left unsupervised. First of all, you will need to watch her constantly. Most females will not want to stay willingly in the whelping box, they would rather hide under a bed. Are you feeling the puppies move? If so how long have you felt movement? Can you tell if the pups are still being carried high or have they dropped? Have you taken mommas temperature? Some females start digging and nesting several days ahead of whelping. Do you have a exercise pen you can confine the female to? She need to be someplace where you can watch her but also where she feels safe and secure. You don't want the male around when she is whelping.
